The Fire Code and recognized fire protection standards change every 3-5 years on average. The changes need to be enacted by the Provincial Government to become law. Maintaining compliance with life safety changes is the responsibility of the building owner and those designated by the owner to implement the requirements of the Fire Code. This has not changed since the inception of the first BC Fire Code in 1980.
From homes to hotels, from condominiums to commercial and industrial properties, we all have fire safety responsibilities.
Property owners, operators, managers and even occupants must understand their role in life safety including taking the necessary action to prevent fire incidents and be prepared for an emergency.
